How to Save Instagram Reels to Your Phone (iPhone & Android)
Save Reels Directly to Your Camera Roll
Want to save an Instagram Reel to your phone so you can watch it offline, share it on other apps, or keep it forever? You're in the right place. This guide covers every method for both iPhone and Android users.
Method 1: Using an Online Downloader (Recommended)
The fastest and most reliable way to save any public Instagram Reel to your phone is by using Reels Direct Downloader. It works on every phone browser — Safari, Chrome, Firefox, you name it.
On iPhone (iOS)
- Open Instagram and find the Reel you want to save
- Tap the three dots (⋯) and select Copy Link
- Open Safari and go to reelsdownloader.site
- Paste the link and tap Download
- When the video appears, tap and hold it, then select Save to Photos
Tip: If Safari prompts you about downloading a file, tap "Download" to allow it. You can find the file in your Files app → Downloads folder.
On Android
- Open Instagram and copy the Reel's link
- Open Chrome and go to reelsdownloader.site
- Paste the link and tap Download
- The video will automatically save to your Downloads folder
- Find it in your Gallery or Files app
Method 2: Save Within Instagram (Bookmark)
Instagram lets you bookmark Reels for later viewing:
- Tap the bookmark icon (ribbon) below the Reel
- Optionally save to a specific collection
- Access saved posts from Profile → ☰ → Saved
Drawback: This doesn't actually download the video. You need internet to view it, and if the original post is deleted, it vanishes from your saved items.
Method 3: Save Your Own Reels
If you're the creator, Instagram lets you download your own Reels:
- Go to your Reel on your profile
- Tap the three dots (⋯)
- Select Save to Camera Roll or Download
This works natively but only for your own content.
Method 4: Screen Recording (Last Resort)
Both iOS and Android have built-in screen recording:
- iPhone: Swipe down from top-right corner → tap Screen Recording button
- Android: Swipe down notification shade → tap Screen Record
This captures everything on screen, including Instagram's UI. The quality is also lower than a direct download. We only recommend this as a last resort.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Video won't save on iPhone? Make sure you've granted browser permissions to save files. Go to Settings → Safari → Downloads and check the location.
Download stuck on Android? Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. Chrome usually works best.
Can't find the downloaded file? Check your phone's Files app or Downloads folder. On iPhone, also check the Photos app.
Audio-Only Downloads on Mobile
Need just the audio? Reels Direct Downloader has an audio-only option. Simply check the "Audio Only (MP3)" box before downloading. Learn more in our complete guide to downloading Reels audio.
